Project Description
Casuarina Beach is a $1billion, 15-year master planned community with over 183ha of land on 3.5km of coastline in Northern New South Wales.
The land was a decommissioned coastal sand mine which had sat dormant for a number of years. With significant biodiversity constraints and environmental factor, Casuarina Beach was a highly political development and was declared a Major Project by the NSW Planning Minister. The community now has a resident population of approximately 7000 people, a 9ha sports and recreational centre, district shopping centre and 3.5km linear ocean-side parkland and dune protection area. The urban form is generally made up of low rise, low and medium density housing.
Peter Macgregor was lead consultant through the concept, design and planning approval stages of Casuarina Beach. Particularly, he managed stakeholder engagement and briefings with relevant State Authorities, Tweed City Council, local environmental groups and local residents.
